Lock Kit Installation Instructions

Some lock kits are provided with instructions in the package. Most of the lock kit installation instructions are available as a downloadable (pdf) file from the detailed product information page.

If you are in an office with cabinets already containing locks, it will help to examine the internal workings of an existing lock kit before installation.

For the Hon F26 style, the below is more reliable than the pdf instructions from the manufacturer. Refer to the pictures on the pdf!

1. Remove top drawer and cradle from file cabinet. Remove other drawers or make sure all are fully closed, so locking bar moves freely.
2. From the outside of the file cabinet, tap out the ‘knockout’ with a screwdriver by hammering at Point X. NOTE: Wide part of screwdriver blade should be parallel to long side of knockout plug.
3. Install spring in position shown, by hooking one leg of spring over the lock bar. Spring should be parallel with and close to side of cabinet. Push into place against the front and side of the file cabinet.
4. Hook tab of bell crank into the slot in the lock channel. Lift locking bar and bell crank, until hole in bell crank is aligned with hole in cabinet.
5. Slide snap-in clip through holes, then insert nylon lock pin to attach bell crank to cabinet body. Tap lightly if required.
6. Remove lock bracket from lock plunger, and insert into front of knock-out hold with round hole in bracket to the top as shown. Slide lock clip into slots on lock bracket as shown.
7. Lift locking bar and hold up, so bell crank is positioned rearward. Insert plunger lock into front of lock bracket with locking pin up. Turn key to retract locking pin, and insert plunger fully into lock bracket.
8. Allow bell crank to rotate forward so the bell crank hook engages the roll pin in the rear of the plunger lock.
9. Lock mechanism is now ready for use!
